How To Handle Twitter Drama

How To Handle Twitter Drama

Millions of people use Twitter. In fact, from anyone who has noticed, 2009 has been the year that Twitter literally exploded and finally became more mainstream. Many businesses and celebrities use the service in many ways.

Some celebrities share information of articles about them or where they are going to be if they are in the mood to welcome the public, or for pure publicity. Not long ago Trent Reznor of the band Nine Inch Nails decided that Twitter was no longer for him (by the way, the link to his old Twitter account is to a Twitter ‘Page not found.’ He had quite the followership and was quite active in his tweet stream. He got down with the masses of fans and haters alike to tweet. It was the haters who ended up the winner.

However, he has not been the only one to feel the glares and flamage. Businesses, celebrities, and even normal people on a daily basis on Twitter are getting the same treatment. It all boils down to how you handle the situation. If you have gotten into a situation where people are harassing you on Twitter, or any other social network.

1. Report to the service (Twitter or whatever other social network you use) if the accusations are threatening or defamation of character.
2. Just ignore it. Flamers get tired when you do not fuel the fire.
3. Block users you feel you do not want to hear from if they are persistent.

Not everyone will ever agree with what you say, so you may catch a few kerfluffles, but it is best to be laid back about the situation.

TwitJump.com: Perhaps The Next All-In-One Twitter Solution?

TwitjumpTwitjump is a website that off-the-bat says it is the “Ultimate Twitter Toolbox.” That is hard to tell since they are in beta mode, but I thought I would share a little bit about it and perhaps you might want to sign up to get a spot to try this new site out. Of course, I am sure once it is officially opening, there will be a follow-up article here, but hey, most people like new sites if it might make their Twitter experience more efficient, right?

The site offers a few services like:

  • Targeted keyword to follow others
  • Multi- account administration
  • Custom smart search
  • Ability to test keywords
  • Mass-unfollowing options
  • Auto-DM blocking options
  • Spam filters

Twitjump also offers real-time stats so you can check your tweet progress. This is definitely a big boast for a site in beta. I already signed up and hope to receive a beta invitation. I am almost certain the site plans to have some paid services as they say:

Bloggers, consultants, thought leaders, networkers – TwitJump has affordable solutions to help you too! Take all your favorite 3rd party apps, combine them together and you have TwitJump!

No matter, any Twitter application is worth looking into first.

Have you heard of TwitJump? If so, did you sign up to be a beta user? What do you think of it? What services would you usually recommend that can offer the same services as TwitJump?

Twistory: Add Your Twitter Feed to Your Favorite Calendar Application

Twistory: Add Your Twitter Feed to Your Favorite Calendar Application

Twistory screenshotYou heard it! Twistory is a site where you can add your Twitter feed to your favorite calendar application. For those with a lot of tweets under their belt, this could prove handy as an extra way to search through your own tweet updates. Sometimes there might be something you tweeted that you may want to share again as a handy resource.

You can even subscribe to some of your followers/ friends that tweet some pretty resourceful information, so you can always reference back and not get drowned trying to search through gobs of resolts in the Twitter search or even RSS. Applications that are compatible with Twistory are: Google Calendar or any system that uses iCalendar.

No real login is required, just put your Twitter username and there is a Twistory user page automatically created after you click submit. The Twistory userpage contains two bar graphs on your daily and weekly tweeting activity, and some of your most recent tweets.

Though TechCrunch wrote about it in their article “You Didn’t Realize It, But You Really Want Those Twitter Messages In Your Calendar“, their take was not really a review, but just an introduction to the tool. Subscribing and adding Twistory into your Google Calendar (which is what I did), was really easy to do and I thought great. Remember, with Google Calendar, you can sync it with your Microsoft Outlook, iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

Does Twistory sound like an application you might find useful?

You Can Now Publish Your Facebook Page Updates to Twitter!

You Can Now Publish Your Facebook Page Updates to Twitter!

Although it is possible to publish your Twitter posts to your Facebook profile, you can now publish your Facebook Page updates to Twitter. In their article, Publishing to Twitter from Facebook Pages, they go through the details, but it really is not just a great Facebook tool, but also a great Twitter tool. However, I am sure anyone would wonder: why is this important?

A lot of businesses and individuals have separate pages to help with branding. However, sometimes the Facebook pages have content that would not normally be seen anywhere else. It also keeps your visitors focused on what you have to say. Although there are blogs, forums, and other social networks, this is a great tool to try to make sure your followers are up-to-date, even if you may not directly tweet from Twitter itself on a particular day.

The whole point about networking is to share content and hopefully influence people enough to either interact or purchase. It is a basic concept of social media. In Facebook doing this, it encourages people to share their content on other social networks. Obviously, Facebook realizes Twitter’s importance of real time search and content.

In fact, if you already have a Facebook page, you will see at the top a box that starts out with “Link Your Page to Your Twitter Account.” So, if you have followers in Twitter that do not know about your Facebook page, they will now! :)
