Will Google Buzz Make Visiting Twitter A Thing Of The Past?

This is more an opinion of Google Buzz and a few things I believe about it compared to Twitter. My overall thoughts are that Google really needs to stick to handling their other projects rather than open others. I was not impressed with Google Wave. Is there a reason why Google did not just combine the services of the two, or would it have been too much on their servers?

K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid.) That is why I like Twitter. I like a lot of the applications designed for Twitter that I can use to filter and sort out my multiple accounts for the sites I run. Most of them are just as simple. Overall, I do not mind change. That is why I am not beefing about Facebook’s changes in the past week.

For Gmail users, that is great, but I do not use the service because I have my own email on my own servers. I like that it allows integration of several services, but for those who really do not care because they do not use Gmail, what is the use?

What happens if it flops? What happens if Gmail goes down? – which happens on occasion. Yes, Twitter has its down times, but it is a consistent service and they are not releasing insane and big changes. I am not certain how much it will attract more users. It might. I do know that it could slow things down and could become an inconvenience. However, if this flops for them, they could lose a lot more than just shutting down another failed service, they could alienate users.

I do not think Google could kill Twitter if they tried. In fact, I think Google needs to accept it, and throw some investment into the micro-blogging social network.

What are your thoughts?

  • At first glance I liked Buzz, but then I realized that friends who do not have gmail cannot be on it. And the worst thing is that when a popular member of Buzz says something, and all his/her followers line up to say, “Right!” I have to scroll down through hundreds of posts to get to the next message. FAIL!

  • Yes, I noticed that. I actually had to go log into a VERY old gmail account (back in the day when Google was stingy and it was on an invite basis.)

By choice, I am not a gmail user. That is because I use Yahoo as an alternative email when I might have any service issues. I find no real use for it and it seems like an annoying mess in the making, especially for users with a lot of contacts on gmail.
