140it – Making Your Tweets Fit

140it – Making Your Tweets Fit

140it screenshot140.it has possibly put a unique spin on Twitter usage and possibly fulfilled those wishes of tweeps who have a hard time making that 140 character limit. In a way it uses the same idea of short url websites, but it goes further than that.

Services that are provided:

  • Reduces words
  • Shortens URL with their own chosen short URL site called Unhub

Another feature, especially if you talk about certain companies, 140it shortens the company name and uses their StockTwits symbol.

Here is a video for those who are more visual and want to understand 140it better.

140it Demo from Vinicius Vacanti on Vimeo.

Please note that sometimes using this feature may not be in your best interest. You have to gauge your followers and their expectations of your tweets. Sometimes it might be great when tweeting with close friends and family, but dishing out valuable information on a serious note may not be conducive in influencing your followers. Also, when or if you use 140it, make sure to proof your tweet to make sure the shortened version makes sense and will be understandable.

What do you think about 140it? Have you tried it before? Or if you just learned about it – did you try it out and what did you think?

A list of Costly Twitter Mistakes

Are you making these costly Twitter mistakes?

Spam on Twitter

Here’s the skinny: One or more of the following mistakes are likely to result in having your account suspended on Twitter.

1. Twitter Spam: The biggest no no of them all=Spam. Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging by sending unsolicited messages indiscriminately.

2. Twitter User Abuse: A large number of people block the profile or write in with spam complaints.

3. Twitter Aggressive following: Using programs out there that claim to get you 1000’s of follow in just days could get you suspended. Just remember quality is better then quantity.

4. Twitter Updates consist of duplicate links: Sending out the same tweet over and over again can get you suspended. You can also lose many of your followers doing this.

5. Stealing: Updates poached from others’ twitter timelines, passed off as one’s own. Putting your own spin on a tweet will keep you safe.

6. Twitter Technical Abuse: Updates consist of links pointing to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful material.

7. Multiple Accounts: A large number of accounts is created in a short amount of time. You can have more then one account just don’t create several in a short time.

By all means, avoid these seven costly mistakes. You’ll be glad that you did.

Have you made any of these mistakes or know anyone that has?

5 Popular Twitter Clients

5 Popular Twitter Clients

twitter clients

Tweeting from Twitter.com is effective for some users, but now that Twitter has been around long enough for even baby boomers’ parents to pick it up, it’s time for you to check out new and enhanced ways to tweet, so let’s take a look at 5 great Twitter clients below:

Tweetdeck currently, the industry favorite is Tweetdeck not only because it syncs with an iPhone, but because it has grouping functions for people and search terms, all colors are customizable, and Tweetdeck is integrated with Facebook, yFrog, and even MySpace. New updates allow users to drag photos into the update bar without any download steps, URLs are automatically shortened, and language translation options are now built in. It is by far the most robust option on the market.

Seesmic supports multiple Twitter accounts on the same screen and has amazing Facebook integration that lets you comment and “like” without having to visit Facebook. Seesmic allows groups of people and searches and offers unlimited saved searches. Seesmic is interesting because like Tweetdeck, it is constantly adding upgrades and improvements.

HootSuite is the professional Twitter client. With HootSuite, you can manage multiple Twitter profiles, pre-schedule tweets, measure your success and much more.

Tweetie for Mac is a clean and simple, no fluff client that shows threaded conversations, lets users flip between multiple accounts, multiple services and allows for saved searches. Tweetie for Mac lets users post videos to yFrog and takes up very few resources on your computer.

Destroy Twitter this is a single account client that allows grouping for people or search words and is a simple, streamlined way to Twitter from your desktop and there are even themes available to download to customize your experience with Destroy Twitter.

What is your favorite Twitter client and why?

Twitter Athletes

A directory of professional athletes tweeting on Twitter

twitter-athletes

Hey Sports Fans,

Now you have a place to find your favorite professional sports players that are on Twitter.

Thanks to the creators of twitter athletes.

The creators of twitter-athletes.com are sports fans who use Twitter and realized it wasn’t easy to find professional athletes on Twitter, other than the real obvious (Shaq, Lance Armstrong, Tony Hawk, etc).

In April 2009 they decided to do something about it. Initially slated as a weekend (or two) project the site has taken on a life of its own and has grown much faster than they anticipated. Twitter Athletes have been mentioned on ESPN’s Outside the Lines, in Sporting News, and on numerous blogs.

You can search for your favorite professional sports players easily. Simply choose the sport (nfl, nba, mlb, nhl, nascar, nhl, etc) of choice which will provide an alphabetical listing of each team and players listed on Twitter. Now you can follow your favorite pro athletes and tweet with them too.

There’s also the option to view all tweets, top 10, recent additions, and even recommend an athlete.

Don’t Go Phishing it may be a Scam!

Twitter Funny Video Phishing Scam

twitterphishingJust saw this upon starting up TweetDeck this morning. Looks like some folks are getting a virus which then sends out DMs saying “rofl this you on here?” regarding an alleged funny video featuring the recipient. The link leads to a spoofed Twitter site where unknowing folks may enter their Twitter credentials and where the instigators can then gain access to more Twitter accounts and perpetuate the ploy.

If you get such a DM, don’t enter your Twitter log-in data on the spoofed site! If you’ve already done so, try to change your Twitter password as soon as possible.

This one almost got me, and I am typically wary of such things.
Mashable has a nice update that was posted on September 23rd, 2009 | by BenParr

Do Not Visit this link it’s only here to let you know of the link that is showing up in the DM’s of many users on Twitter  Reported Web Forgery http://videos.twitter.secure-logins01.com
Don’t get caught in the Phishing Scam.

Until next time, be on guard with TwitterWatchdog

Add Your Twitter Feed to Facebook

Importing Your RSS Feed into Your Facebook Account

Recently we received a request for instructions on “How-To” add your Twitter RSS feed to your Facebook Account.

To keep this simple, these are the things that you will need.

RSS to Facebook

RSS to Facebook

Things You’ll Need:

* Facebook account
* Computer with Internet access
* RSS feed from twitter

Now let’s move on…
Import an RSS Feed to Your Notes

First off we have to locate your Twitter RSS Feed. This is a very simple task. Your Twitter RSS Feed is located right directly below your Following List within your twitter profile page. (Just click on your tweets and you’ll be on your profile page) All you have to do is Right Click on the RSS Feed of “yourname” tweets and choose “Copy Link Location” and then open Note Pad or any text editor and paste that URL to your text editor. Then we can move on to the rest of the instructions below.

Step 1
Sign in to Facebook’s home page using the email address you registered with (see Resources below).

Step 2
Follow the “My Notes” link from the navigational menu. If you have already entered notes on your page, then they will load for you to preview or edit.

Step 3
Select the “Import Blog” or “Edit Import Settings” link in the Notes Setting section. If you are already importing from a blog, the URL will appear here. You can only import from 1 source at a time. Simply “Stop Importing” if you want to change to an RSS feed.

Step 4
Enter the URL for the RSS feed in the box. Check the box next to the statement that you actually own the content. You cannot import RSS feeds from Web sites that are not your own or that you do not have permission to reproduce.

Step 5
Click the “Start Importing” button. Facebook will import the content of the RSS feed for you to preview. If everything looks good, then go ahead and hit the “Continue” button. Now your RSS feed is automatically imported into your “Notes” section.

Step 6
Set your privacy levels to determine who is allowed to view your notes, which now contain your RSS feed.

I hope that this post answers your question Roy.
