Why Twitter Suspends Accounts

-By Skeeter Hansen and Al Ferretti

Your Twitter account could get suspended for one or more of these reasons

User Abuse: A large number of people block the profile or write in with spam complaints.

Aggressive following: Using programs out there that claim to get you 1000’s of follow in just days could get you suspended. Just remember quality is better then quantity.

Misuse of the reply feature: I haven’t heard of anyone getting suspended for this but it’s on the list of things not to do.

Updates consist of duplicate links and/or text: Sending out the same tweet over and over again can get you suspended. You will also lose all your followers doing this.

Stealing: Updates poached from others’ timelines, passed off as one’s own. Putting your own spin on a tweet will keep you safe.

Technical Abuse: Updates consist of links pointing to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful material.

Multiple Accounts: A large number of accounts is created in a short amount of time. You can have more then one account just don’t create several in a short time.

Spam: An account is identified as belonging to a spam cluster.

    Hi Mike,
You are correct about the IP. Many months ago when I was just getting started I also opened to many accounts in one day only to wake up and find them suspended. My older account which was only about a month old was not suspended. Also keep in mind when sending tweets out on more then one account that all the tweets will be coming from one IP address. Just use caution when using more than one account.

    Thanks for the comment,

Apparently they ban people who sign up with 10minutemail. I guess spamming their userbase is more important than it may seem!

  • I think other site proprietors should take this web site as an model, very clean

and fantastic user friendly style and design, let alone the

content. You’re an expert in this topic!

had this acc about a week. been suspended twice for so called ‘misuse of reply or mention feature’ i have 4 other accounts and i do exactly the same thing on those yet there is no problems. i have created these 5 accs over a period of 7 months. i send my own twitterart to my followers as mentions sometimes with you tube links, and i reply to those who mention me. how can this be wrong? If it is wrong there would be no interaction on twitter at all and it would die.

I ask twitter support to explain their thinking but they just send the same generic reply everytime. the only difference in this new acc is that i am selective with who i follow back. my other four live on the follow limit and I wanted this one to be different.

If you have any ideas I would love to hear them

    Best Regards

    Chris Balshaw
